4 Signs You Need a New Roof

Your roofing system may experience problems over time due to its exposure to the harshest elements and weather conditions. Sometimes, these issues are severe enough to necessitate roof repair or replacement. So, what red flags should you watch out for on your roof?

In this post, we discuss four common signs that you need a new roof.

1. Curling Shingles

Your asphalt shingles may show signs of weathering in two different ways. If their edges have remained flat but their middle has risen upward, this is known as clawing. Alternatively, if their edges have turned upward, this is known as cupping. Both suggest the potential for significant leaks, which could make your house more susceptible to water damage.

2. Missing Shingles

Shingles installed incorrectly or nearing the end of their lifespan are more likely to get blown off during a storm. Large bare patches may result from this, exposing your system’s underlayment and roof deck. This easily increases the likelihood of water infiltration. Patching it with newer shingles can work, but it’s still advisable to have it checked by a professional.

3. Old Age

A typical asphalt shingle roof should last between 20 and 30 years. If your roof is over 20 years old, you should consider replacing it. Consult your roofing contractor, and look up the roof’s warranty or insurance records if you’re unsure of its age.

4. Too Many Leaks

As the roof ages, leak repairs become more difficult. Repairs can extend the lifespan of your roof by a few years, but eventually, they will only serve as short-term solutions that will last you a few months at most. Frequent repairs can be expensive; instead, you should set aside money for a new roof.
